Training

As a Girl Scout volunteer, you play a vital role in our mission to bring Girl Scouting to every girl, everywhere.  Our volunteer trainers are eager to assist you, so come and join us for fun and learning!

REQUIREMENTS
You must be currently registered as an adult member of Girl Scouts of Macomb County - Otsikita Council Inc. Childcare is not provided and children are not permitted in training.

AT LEAST ONE LEADER OF A TROOP IS REQUIRED TO COMPLETE GIRL SCOUT VOLUNTEER ORIENTATION, MANAGING A TROOP AND PROGRAM AGE LEVEL (DAISY, BROWNIE, JUNIOR, STUDIO 2B.)  IT IS HIGHLY ENCOURAGED THAT ALL TROOP LEADERS COMPLETE SUCH TRAININGS AS TO GAIN A FIRM UNDERSTANDING OF GIRL SCOUT POLICIES, PROCEDURES AND AN OVERALL KNOWLEDGE OF PROGRAMMING.

HOW TO REGISTER
Registration is required for all Girl Scout training.  Attendance is limited and sessions fill quickly, so early registration is encouraged to assure availability.  Registrations are accepted on a first come-first served basis until the course has reached maximum capacity or until the registration deadline (seven days prior to the actual course date). Registration received prior to the opening of registration will be returned.

CONFIRMATION
One week before the course begins you will receive a confirmation letter, and any other information you might need for the course. If you have not received a confirmation prior to the date of your course, please contact us at (586) 263-0220 ext. 223.

CANCELLATION
If you are unable to attend a course for which you are confirmed, PLEASE call (586) 263-0220 ext. 223 to cancel as soon as possible. Others are often waiting. If the registration is low, we reserve the right to cancel a class. In the event of cancellation, anyone who has preregistered will be notified.

CHANGing OR canceling REGISTRATION

  • Persons canceling prior to the seven-day registration deadline will be issued a training credit slip valid for one year.
  • No credit slips, refunds, changing or switching after the seven-day registration deadline.

GIRL SCOUT VOLUNTEER ORIENTATION
To complete online training, you must have an e-mail address. Registration for this course is required to receive credit. Once your registration is received, a confirmation will be e-mailed to you that includes the site address and password. After you have completed the training, your account will be accessed to review your work. After successful completion, an e-mail confirming your completion will be sent. CPR/FIRST AID TRAINING
A Girl Scout first-aider is an adult who has taken Girl Scout council-approved first-aid and CPR training. Not all certifications are acceptable; refer to Safety-Wise pages 36-37 for more information.

Special Instructions for FA/CPR Registrants:
The following American Heart Association and American Red Cross cards are acceptable as fulfillment of the CPR requirement for those individuals registering for an American Red Cross First Aid and/or CPR Recertification course:

  • Heartsaver AED and Heartsaver CPR Infant/Child (two cards)
  • Heartsaver CPR Adult, and Infant/Child if you have girls in your troop who are younger than 8 (one or two cards)
  • BLS-CPR for the Health Care Provider (one card)
  • BLS Heartsaver Plus and PBLS Plus if you have girls in your troop who are younger than 8 (two cards)
  • American Red Cross Adult and Child CPR cards

All cards must be issued within the past year to be accepted as CPR requirements when registering for American Red Cross First Aid course.

American Red Cross CPR cards are valid for one year, while First Aid cards are valid for three years. However, First Aid cards become invalid if current CPR certification is not maintained.

ENRICHMENT COURSES
Programs are offered on a wide variety of subjects that often include hands-on participation. Topics may include songs and games, arts and crafts, ceremonies, bridging, cultural diversity, S.W.A.P.S., dramatics, nature, etc.

ROUNDTABLES
Participants share their ideas and pool their resources. Roundtables offer wonderful opportunities to meet other leaders and share fun and successes.

TRANSFERRING TRAINING
If you are transferring from another Girl Scout council, please contact us at (586) 263-0220 ext. 210 for specific information regarding your training.

Volunteers should submit a copy of their training record for review.

Training will be verified and you will be contacted if you need to register for any additional courses.
